Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
-Psalms 115:4
Ah, what a shame to know, oh Lord, that you’re people who confessed themselves as Christians has gone whoring with their idols. More than just indignation and disgust, your children have seen their folly and some of the elect were even deceived by these great delusion (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12). Nevertheless, strengthened us with your words, oh God, that we may not fall and bow down before these abominations of desolation.
Woe unto the blind in spirit! For you thought that a piece of wood can see your sacrifices and piety. You have cut a tree out in the forest and carved it like an image of a man or beast. You have dressed them with colorful garments and set them as your gods (Jeremiah 10:4-5). Shame on you who is blind in the spirit! You have eyes like your idols which can’t see the light of truth (Psalms 115:4-5).
Woe unto the deaf in spirit! For you reckoned that a carved stone can hear your prayers and supplications. Yea, in vain prayers you uttered the words of the heathen repetitively, thinking that they can hear you (Matthew 6:7-9). You have rolled your fingers on those wooden beads counting the prayers for the dead. Shame on you who is deaf in the spirit! You have ears like your idols which can’t hear the voice of truth (Psalms 115:4, 6).
Woe unto the dumb in spirit! For in silence you would rather obey the commandments and traditions of men than God (Mark 7:6-9, 13). The Bible has spoken unto you, but you kept quiet and forsake its words. For the traditions instilled in your hearts has captivated your innocent souls that you never tried to speak against it. Shame on you who is dumb in spirit! You have mouth like your idols but can’t speak the words of truth (Psalms 115:4-5).
Woe unto the lame in spirit! For you believed that an idol can bear all your sins and sufferings. You have put them upon your shoulders so they may moved back and forth. You have carry the burden of their weight and yet your idols can’t do anything good for you (Jeremiah 10:5). Shame on you who is lame in the spirit! You have arms and feet like your idols but can’t uphold the burden of truth (Psalms 115:4, 7).
Woe unto the dead in spirit! For you proclaimed the name of God saying, “Lord! Lord!,” but he never knew you. You are praying daily and dutifully observing your rituals yet you never know how to worship him in truth. Thus, in your error you have worshipped the works of your hands and not in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). Shame on you who is dead in the spirit! You have nose like your idols but can’t breath the Spirit of truth (Psalms 115:4, 6).
When will you come to your senses, oh idolaters!? If God is a Spirit (John 4:23-24), then why are you worshipping the graven arts of man? If God cannot be glorified nor worshipped in the works of man’s hands (Acts 17:24-26, 29), then why are you wearing those scapulars, beads and amulets of the heathens? If God hates those who bow down on angels and men (Acts 10:25-26; Colossians 2:18; Revelation 22:8-9), then why are you venerating them as though they can save you from eternal torment? How futile are your works, oh man, you are terribly cursed (Romans 1:21-25).
When will you wake up, oh you heathens! Behold you have been fooled by your own pagan traditions. Cast those idols and break them into pieces. For the name of God is blasphemed and profaned continuously with such images of jealousy (Deuteronomy 5:8-9). Can idols see the beauty of God’s work? Can they hear the voice of your supplications? Can they speak words of prophecy? Can they stretch their hand and lift you up when you fall? Or can they breath as though they’re alive? How pathetic are your beliefs, oh man, you are truly cursed!
Know this and consider it carefully, oh Christian, for this is the true will of God. First, search the truth in God’s words that you may see. Listen carefully to the voice of the Lord that you may perceive his will. Don’t hold your tongue, repent and confessed your sins that you may proclaim his love. Walk uprightly according to his commandments that you will not turn to vanities and worldliness. Lastly, live in the Spirit of God, whom the Father give to anyone who accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior (Acts 2:38-39).
Separate us, oh Father, we beseech you! Let not our feet bow down to idols of the heathens. Preserve us, just as you have preserved seven thousand men in the days of Elijah (Romans 11:3-4) who faithfully stand in your words and neglected the whoredom of Jezebel to her Baal. Give us hearts like those of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who would rather be burned at stake in a fiery furnace than to worship the image of a man nor to obey their ungodly ordinances (Mark 7:6-9, 13). Preserve us, oh Lord, that we may be worthy to be called your sons and daughters who worship you in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).
